Cyrus buffum

Cyrus Buffum is the founder and former executive director of Charleston Waterkeeper--the Charleston, SC-based organization whose mission is to protect, promote, and restore the quality of Charleston's waterways. Cyrus first met Rob in 2009 during the annual conference of the Waterkeeper Alliance--a group of over 200 Waterkeeper organizations working worldwide for clean water and strong communities--and has been captivated by 2041's global mission ever since.

In 2010, for his philanthropic efforts in establishing Charleston Waterkeeper, Cyrus was selected as a finalist of GQ's “Better Men Better World” search; and in 2011, he was named the College of Charleston Young Alumnus of the Year.

A native of Cape Cod, MA, Cyrus graduated from the College of Charleston in 2006 with a degree in physics and a focus on coastal processes. And for the past 13 years, he has proudly called the Lowcountry home.

Cyrus is an active sailor, recently completing an ocean passage from the Azores to Vigo, Spain, and dreams, one day, of building his own wooden sailboat. Cyrus is an amateur naturalist and maritime historian and has recently taken up commercial shellfishing. Despite contributing an article to Huffington Post once Cyrus is eager to write more, sharing his observations of the natural world to those who will listen!
